What happens when a child is having difficulty with articulation and feeding skills due to difficulty with the oral musculature?
Usually, this is where clinicians will address these difficulties, articulation by practicing single sounds and words to perfect the tongues movement. Often this can lead to improvements.
But in some cases an orofacial myofunctional disorder could be present which impacts speaking and feeding, by addressing the root of the problem, the oral musculature we can support the child to overcome the difficulties.
This type of therapy takes a step back from addressing a specific sound or toleration of a certain type of food and instead addresses how the muscles of the mouth and oral cavity work to obtain the complex set of movements needed to achieve accurate articulation and chewing.
